VodaPay
From trusted Telco to trailblazing TechCo
Vodacom noticed payment challenges in South Africa due to a large unbanked population and limited banking access. This led to the creation of VodaPay, a fintech initiative within the telco, in partnership with Alipay. VodaPay offers a super app enabling bill payments, money transfers without a bank account, access to a digital mall, and various other services. Despite challenges, collaborative efforts ensured seamless integration and a successful launch. VodaPay became South Africa's top downloaded app within its first month, propelling Vodacom Financial and Digital Lifestyle Services as a rapidly growing FinTech in Africa.
The work
My primary role in the project was to refresh the existing VodaPay app, enhance user journeys in collaboration with the UX team, and introduce new features briefed in by the client. While the platform was already launched and operational when I joined, my objective was to improve its overall look and feel and contribute to its ongoing evolution.
Working under the guidance of our Design Director, I focused on maintaining the design system, refreshing the platform's aesthetics, and ensuring consistency across all components. I engaged in illustration work and animation to enhance the user experience and collaborated closely with the UX team to refine user journeys. My goal was to develop the skills necessary to confidently create new components, pay attention to detail, and effectively present designs to clients, all while contributing to the ongoing success of VodaPay.
Revamped
My layers are always named, screens are pixel perfect, everything is consitant, all details are explained to developers for full clarity and organisation became key in ensuring a productive workflow.
This project turned me into the super detail orientated, Hyper organised designer I am today.
