Mwendo
The pie in the sky pitch
Mwendo is a conceptual project presented to Standard Bank by our Chief Creative Officer to pitch for potential work. The objective was to design and deliver a financially-led and modular wellness platform for people in Uganda. The aim was to equip individuals with fit-for-purpose tools and guidance to transition from surviving to thriving. My role in the project was to report directly to the Chief Creative Officer and ensure that my UI designs aligned with his vision. I worked within a team and had a tight deadline of only two days to complete the project.

What we did
The primary goals of the UI design were to empower people to become financially self-reliant, physically healthy, and mentally resilient. Through Standard Bank's brand presence and commitment to driving growth in South Africa, the objective was to provide financial solutions and the necessary tools and guidance to enhance physical and mental well-being.
Working closely with the team, I participated in feature ideation, UX design, branding, UI library creation, prototyping, reviews, and presentation preparation. The design was inspired by Ugandan culture to integrate the platform into their lifestyle effectively. We created a futuristic platform with AI integrations, gamification elements, and comprehensive user support.
Despite the tight deadline, the project resulted in a long-term collaboration with the company. We successfully impressed the client and achieved our desired goal within the given timeframe.
What I learnt
These are definitely the types of projects that i enjoy the most, hard deadlines with pie in the sky, no limit thinking. It gives me the opportunity to showcase my ability to deliver high quality work within a very short timeframe. It allows me the opportunity to showcase my conceptual thinking and allows for ideas that can generate future ambitions and goals. The most important thing i learnt from this project was that collaboration is key, within a tight deadline like this it was imperitive that im constantly sitting with a UX designer for imput where needed, ensuring that i stay in close contact with the research team and make sure that what is being done reflects the research apporopriatly while ensuring that our CCO’s mind is blown and he is proud to present the work.
